10月7日消息，日本球員渡邊雄太日前在曼斐斯灰熊效力，在今天的熱身賽中，渡邊雄太出場21分鐘，7投5中得到11分3籃板1封蓋，拿下了自己NBA生涯的第一分。其中，他在末節個人獨得7分，剩餘7.5秒時命中打板三分幫助灰熊追平比分，成功拖入加時賽。
就像所有亞洲球員一樣，渡邊雄太想要進入NBA，難度之大令人望而生畏。但是他還是憑藉超人的毅力和實力，成為第一個從亞洲出發，通過NCAA的歷練，得到NBA球隊正式合約的黃種人，他是第一個走通這條通天捷徑的亞洲人。
本次休賽期，渡邊雄太獲得了為灰熊效力的機會。灰熊裁掉了原本的雙向合同擁有者邁克-亨利，給了渡邊一份為期兩年的雙向合同。
在今天的熱身賽中，渡邊雄太在第三節3分46秒時上場，他替換下了奧米爾-卡斯比。不過在整個第三節，渡邊雄太沒有得分，他從防守做起，搶下了一個進攻籃板，並送給對手一記大帽。 
第四節渡邊繼續出場，他先是在快攻中上演了一條龍突破上籃，拿下了自己本賽季的第一分，並將比分追到79-78反超；隨後在7分02秒時，渡邊雄太又搶下防守籃板後直接反擊，上演了雙手暴扣，這一球又將比分追成87-86反超；在第四節比賽還有7.5秒時，灰熊以91-94落後三分，這時候又是渡邊雄太，他借助牛角區的單擋，迅速提到弧頂處接球命中三分，將比分追平，雙方進入了加時賽。
進入加時賽，渡邊雄太依然發揮了他身體素質出色的特點，在加時賽還有2分55秒時，他在雙人包夾中強行三步上籃，頂開了防守球員將球打進，這一球幫助灰熊將比分拉開為100-97。
加時賽最後1分46秒，渡邊雄太在罰球線如今上演急停跳投，拿下了個人本場比賽第11分，同時將比分變成了103-99，基本奠定了勝局。
通過今天的比賽可以看出，渡邊雄太確實有一定實力。
